Structural properties

Lotader®resins chemical structure has been designed for the extrusion coating of multilayer films:

  • Structure similar to LDPE, with the addition of polar monomer (acrylate monomer) and reactive groups (MAH)
  • High thermal stability of the acrylate comonomers
  • Produced by autoclave

Processing properties

Lotader® resins offers:

  • melt stability, drawability, and low power consumption
  • low neck-in (autoclave resin)
  • very large temperature processing window: from 200°C to 320°C (compatible processing of engineering polymers)
  • fully compatible with LDPE
  • no acid corrosion
  • easy purging with LDPE
  • ease of processability due to a large range of viscosity

Applicative properties

  • very versatile adhesives properties: reactive with nearly all polar substrates like metals or corona treated plastics, compatible with all ethylene copolymers
  • blendable with LDPE in all proportions.
  • Lotader® MAH grades are suitable for impact modification of PA 6 and PA 66 ranging from flexible PA to super-tough PA
  • Lotader® GMA grades are well-suited for impact modification of polyesters (PET, PBT) and Polyphenyl sulfides (PPS)

Adhesive performances in extrusion lamination depend on:

  • level of blending with LDPE
  • temperature
  • equilibrium between reactivity and softness (given by comonomer content)

Key characteristics

  • comonomer content: acrylic ester 9 to 28 % in weight
  • MAH content from 0.3 to 4 %
  • GMA content up to 8 %
  • melt flow index: 2 to 200 g/10mn (190°C - 2.16 kg)
