Countless everyday applications

An industrial partner from the very outset of the project, Arkema works at developing applications for supramolecular materials.

On the strength of its expertise in bitumen additives, Arkema has developed a supramolecular polymer of vegetable origin which imparts remarkable properties to the bitumen mix used for road surfacing as well as many benefits compared to traditional polymers: ease of application, lower production and application temperature with a reduction in corresponding energy consumption, and recyclability.

The scope of applications of supramolecular chemistry is huge: from improving the properties of plastics to manufacturing objects whose lifetime would be considerably extended thanks to their inherent self-healing capability, to adhesives and coatings of vegetable origin whose application requires a smaller energy input, supramolecular chemistry opens up new horizons in countless fields with applications in everyday life.
